What to Include in a Salon/Spa/Fitness Resume Work Experience Section
Generally, a salon/spa/fitness resume work experience section includes the basic information for your job. However, there are some things to keep in mind, such as not listing experience in your industry that is older than 15 to 20 years unless it is pertinent to the position or you don’t have any recent experience. Typically, hiring managers will be more focused on recent experience, so the excess will just take up much-needed space.
Your resume also needs to include more than the specific duties related to your position. You need to highlight the activities you took part in aside from the typical duties, as well as your accomplishments in the role. Ultimately, your work experience section needs to be achievement-oriented much more than duty-oriented.
You should also be sure to include strong verbs. Action words work better than saying you are “responsible for” something. Active verbs are a much better fitting for a salon, spa, or fitness position.
As an esthetician, trainer, stylist, or other employee, you want to show how you put your certifications to work. You need to demonstrate how you have put your skills to the test in recent positions.
How to Format a Salon/Spa/Fitness Resume Work Experience Section
No matter what kind of format you choose to use in your resume, at the very least you need to be consistent. The first thing to remember when you write your work experience section is to begin with your most recent position and to work backwards chronologically. This allows the reader to see your most relevant experience first.
The rest of the work experience section requires certain elements. Each position should include the location of the business and the years you worked there. Remember to write with the present tense for your current position and to write with the past tense in previous positions. Your accomplishments and duties should be listed as five to eight bullet points, not paragraphs. Additionally, you should use specific metrics or statistics whenever possible.
