Brooke Chase Associates
An international retained executive search firm in the Kitchen and Bath and Building Materials industry specializing in the identification evaluation and placement of uniquely qualified professionals. Qualified candidates can review some current searches (your application for any is welcome) or merely submit a profile for future consideration. Professionals in these industries will appreciate the list of upcoming trade shows on the website (networking).

Construction Executive
…"a career advancement and leadership development center for CEOs and executives in the architecture engineering and construction industry." Job leads (nice) a resume board and other resources may prove useful to your search. They also offer several fee-based services including career counseling outplacement and executive marketing. Nice feature: find one job from a particular employer and you can easily view all jobs from this same employer. Registration is not necessary in order to view or apply for jobs but it is required for posting of your resume and services like the job agent and the "resume blasting" programs. A note on the resume blasting: for a fee they offer seven "blasting" programs including 2 that are limited to recruiters and employers who have registered with Construction Executive. These are the only blasts I would consider in order to protect your privacy control the placement of your resume avoid unnecessary or unwanted solicitations and avoid annoying recruiters and employers. At the time of review Construction Executive did not permit anyone who resides outside the United States to register or list company job or resume information.

They have numerous mid-to-senior level openings posted on their site (applications from qualified candidates happily accepted) and they also welcome unsolicited resumes from qualified candidates interested in new opportunities.

…an executive search firm exclusively dedicated to board and executive recruitment for the construction industry. In addition they also find outside corporate directors and contract executives for consulting or interim assignments. …"an executive search firm specializing in the construction and renewable energy industries." Their practices cover Construction (including Architecture and Engineering) Heavy Civil / Infrastructure and Renewable Energy and they offer mid-to-senior level listings as well as senior executive listings through their Retained Search Group. They have offices in Maryland and Arizona and while they limit their placements to North America they will recruit globally to find the right candidate. Qualified professionals are welcome to submit a resume in response to a specific listing or for consideration in future searches.

American Concrete Institute (ACI)
…"a nonprofit technical and educational society organized in 1904 and is one of the world’s leading authorities on concrete technology. […] ACI publishes reliable information on concrete and its applications conducts educational seminars provides a standard certification program for the industry provides local forums for discussion through the Chapter program and encourages student involvement in the concrete field." This is more for engineers and others with college-level training. You can find information on their many certification progams and where to find training and students can find information on scholarships and fellowships. The ACI Career Center is part of a shared database of engineering and science jobs but you can sort out the concrete jobs by using that word in your search.
American Public Works Association
…tremendous resource for information on the many fields covering public works and a stellar list of links to related professional and trade associations. The association also hosts a nice job board the APWA WorkZone which can be searched by location and/or job category.
American Society of Professional Estimators
…serves construction estimators by providing education fellowship and opportunity for professional development. You will find information on their education and certification programs and the standards they have established for the profession and they have a very nice career center which is open to the general user. Don’t skip the links to additional organizations etc. as this will also lead to more opportunities.
Associated Builders and Contractors
…"one of the leading organizations representing America’s business community and the U.S. construction industry." For people interested in the many well-paying careers in the building and construction industry this association offers numerous educational and career resources including links to shops offering apprenticeships and colleges offering courses. Search their list of member contractors plus the Construction Job Network career center.
Builder Online
…extensive website for construction professionals includes features such as an industry yellow pages and the searchable Builder 100 a ranking of companies in the industry with profiles and contact information for each. Users will also like the product database and industry news from the print magazine and other sources. There is also a career center BuilderJobs which all users can search for free. Registered users (also free) can store a resume here customize their search agents and use the “apply now” feature on each listing. This site is highly recommended as a good resource for project managers purchasing agents and other similar fields in this industry.
McGraw-Hill Construction
…found this one yesterday while speaking with a gentleman from Louisiana who was asking about resources for folks in construction. "McGraw-Hill Construction connects people projects and products across the design and construction industry. Get Smart Get Found Find Work and Do Work using the trusted tools resources and services we have provided to construction professionals for more than 100 years." Some areas contain fee-based databases or reports but the News Career Education Community and Resources are all free. The Career section includes job listings and a resume database both of which are open to the public for free. McGraw-Hill Construction is also partnering with the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) and allows special tags for those holding NCCER certification to help employers find them more quickly.
…based in Asheville North Carolina this is an impressive site for all jobs within the construction industry. Yes they provide the database for the NAHB Career Center. Young people interested in pursuing a career in this industry can apply for a scholarship to assist with education costs. Select their list of partners to connect with many of the premiere industry and trade associations for construction. Registered users of the site (free) will be able to save jobs post a resume and set up job alerts but it is not necessary to use the many resources available here.
…bills itself as "the nation’s most comprehensive guide to architecture engineering and construction resources on the Internet" with annotated links to over 7000 sites. Links are organized by topic under the headings of Organizations Industry topics Resources and Guides. Some of the topics break down further to help users find the relevant resources more quickly. Professionals in these fields will appreciate these sources plus the extensive links under the Jobs and Career Exchange as well as Labor and Employment.
The Building & Construction Blue Book
Online access to continually updated construction industry information. The Blue Book of Building and Construction publishes regional construction directories in most of the major geographic regions of the United States.
Go 4 Construction Jobs
…a global recruitment website for the building civil engineering infrastructure energy and oil and gas industries. You can browse by discipline Industry sector or location and they also list recruiters by discipline and location. The site is available in 9 languages other than English including Arabic Japanese Chinese (Simplified Han) and Russian. You will need to register to apply for any jobs posted here which includes an extensive profile and ads your CV/resume in Word format but this is free and allows you to set up job search alerts and (if you wish) add your credentials to the database that recruiters search.
Helmets to Hardhats
…information on getting into the extremely lucrative building and construction industry for former military personnel. Many trade and other organizations have listed jobs and apprentice or training programs here. You can look around the site and search the job database without registering but you will not be able to view specifics of any listing until you register. "Helmets to Hardhats is co-sponsored by all fifteen Building and Construction Trades organizations as well as their employer associations which together represent about 82000 contractors."
Home Builders Institute
"Home Builders Institute the workforce development arm of the National Association of Home Builders is dedicated to the advancement and enrichment of education and training programs serving the needs of the building industry." Among other services they partner with the US Dept of Labor’s Job Corps to train and place young people in residential construction jobs. There is a tremendous amount of information here ranging from programs offered training opportunities and careers in this industry. They also operate the website with information on careers training and job opportunities in this industry for all interested audiences.
Labor Finders
"Established in 1975 Labor Finders is the oldest and largest privately held industrial labor staffing company. Comprised of a focused network of over 285 offices throughout the nation Labor Finders delivers a flexible productive dependable workforce to meet fluctuating workforce demands while eliminating payroll and administrative burdens for companies." Labor Finders specializes in qualified temporary workers for industrial commercial and construction projects but covers many additional short-term assignments. "Today we have grown our business model to include production/assembly workers maintenance technicians electricians carpenters welders office/clerical as well as service positions from chefs to wait staff and much more." Visitors can search for current job openings and then opt to apply online (a formal resume is not required but might be helpful) or in person (you will be given the information which office to contact).
National Association of Home Builders
…"a Washington D.C.-based trade association whose mission is to enhance the climate for housing and the building industry. […] Founded in 1942 NAHB is a federation of more than 800 state and local associations. About one-third of NAHBÂ’s 235000 members are home builders and/or remodelers. The remaining members are associates working in closely related fields within the housing industry such as mortgage finance and building products and services." There is good information here for consumers as well as people in the industry.

VTF Excavation LLC
This Ohio-based company is a full service heavy highway municipal pipe heavy sitework and excavation company. VTF Excavation primarily works in an area consisting of over 250 sq miles in northwest/central Ohio and northeast Indiana. National Chimney Sweep Guild

Learn how to become a certified chimney sweep (through CSIA) find the suppliers and apprentice to a sweep through the local guild.

National Demolition Association
Trade association representing more than 1000 U.S. and Canadian companies that offer standard demolition services as well as a full range of demolition-related services and products. You can use the Member Directory to start finding employers learn about the industry and related safety / environmental issues check out their many learning programs and even head over to the Demolition Career Center to search the jobs! National Electrical Contractors Association
…"an association of more than 4000 electrical contractors in the United States all of whom are members of our 118 local chapters." Sections include information on the association standards women in the industry careers in the industry (plus info on finding an apprenticeship) industry trends a searchable directory of electronic contractors and links to close associations.
International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers
…the union representing 750000 members across various industries and occupations where electrical workers wiring and even telephone operators can be found. Probably the second largest union in the world and covering over 1000 individual locals. Information on upcoming work projects local hiring halls and apprenticeship programs can be found by checking their links to the locals. I have also found some of the local hourly pay schedules on these pages so look around. While here check out the IBEW Construction Jobs Board the official job network for the Construction Branch of the IBEW. Select your country (US or Canada) location scale and/or date of posting of the job and go. Job Calls are posted directly by the local unions themselves. All listings contain information on whom to contact for more information or to apply for the openings.
Construction Trade Jobs Online
…"the construction jobs center for construction trades workers journeymen and skilled craftsmen." Operated by Construction Executive Online in Wilmington DE this site lists jobs such as construction project manager estimators plumbers pipefittes and much more. Registration is not required to view jobs nor to apply for those listed here. There are no dates on the listings but the posting information says they are posted for 60 days.
…serves the construction industry and includes jobs in engineering electrical plumbing sales construction estimating and heating/ventilating/air-conditioning (HVAC). Positions are for all jobs within this industry including installers and engineers along with sales and office administration. You do not need to register to review and apply for jobs but the free registration allows you to store a resume here and set up various customized services.

Trade Jobs Forum
…a networking and information-exchange site created by a journeyman construction worker to assist his fellow tradesmen and women (journeyman welders pipefitters boilermakers electricians etc etc.) in finding new work. Yes there are many jobs being posted here plus you get to talk to others about work including rants and raves. There’s also a list of the top contractors in the country plus their contact info. You must register to access the site which is comprised of several discussion boards but it is free. The creator of the site is Mike Huckabay (a.k.a. JMAN) so be sure to thank him for his efforts on your behalf.

Women in the Trades

Tradeswomen Inc
California’s first organization for women in the trades. Founded in 1979 as a grass- roots support organization they work to build community among the growing numbers of women in blue collar skilled craft jobs. Check their events calendar and contact them about apprenticeships and training programs. The "Links" list is a little outdated but if you don’t live in California they can help connect you with programs closer to your own home.
National Association of Women in Construction
Founded in 1953 by 16 women working in construction (Women in Construction of Fort Worth Texas) the National Association of Women in Construction now has a membership of 4500 approximately 167 chapters and several international affiliations. They promote both the tradeswomen and the women business owners and offer apprenticeship programs and other services to promote and support women in this industry. Check the job board for numerous openings for laborers engineers estimators and much more from around the world.
NEW: Nontraditional Employment for Women
"Founded in 1978 NEW is a sector-based workforce development program that prepares women for careers in the construction transportation energy and facilities maintenance industries. NEW focuses on skilled unionized jobs in the trades with starting wages averaging $15 per hour benefits and a path to higher-wage employment. NEW primarily serves low-income minority women from all five boroughs in New York City." You must be at least 18 years old and have either a high school diploma or GED to participate. They hold information sessions every Tuesday morning and Wednesday evening. Call to register or complete their online form.

International Union of Operating Engineers
…"a diversified trade union that primarily represents operating engineers who work as heavy equipment operators mechanics and surveyors in the construction industry and stationary engineers who work in operations and maintenance in building and industrial complexes and in the service industries." As a union they also represent a few other varies professions but I am most interested in their training programs which include opportunities for women and veterans. Excellent and great work!
National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators
"NCCCO was formed in January 1995 as a non-profit organization with it’s mission to develop effective performance standards for safe crane operation to assist all segments of general industry and construction. By providing a thorough independent assessment of knowledge and skills NCCCO aims to enhance lifting equipment safety reduce workplace risk improve performance records stimulate training and give due recognition to the professionals who work in with and around cranes." The organization does not offer the training that leads to its certifications but it does list x`organizations who do. There is also information for military personnel regarding VA benefits you can use to pay for training and to request reimbursement of your certification fee.

National Association of Industrial and Office Properties (NAIOP)
