Resume Templates: Copywriter

Job searches can be nerve-racking, but if you have a well-designed, clear, and concise resume, you can get the copywriter position you’re looking for. Consider the fact that this will be the employer’s first look at your qualifications. Take the time to emphasize your strong writing and editing skills to give yourself the advantage.

Take note: A copywriter resume should include a list of your proficiency in different types of software, including Excel, MS Word, Power Point, and other programs and apps that might be used on the job. Also mention your attention to detail, spelling ability, grasp of proper grammar, editing skills, and goals you’ve met or exceeded in a bulleted section. Doing so enables the employers to see everything without having to hunt for it on the document.

Copywriter Resume Questions

1. How do you make a copywriter resume with no experience?

If you have no specific experience as a copywriter, you should focus on other areas related to the position. If you have education in journalism, writing, or English, you may want to list education toward the beginning of your document. List individual classes or seminars that show you have knowledge in the area of copywriting. In the work experience section, focus on writing jobs, volunteer positions, or school projects that demonstrate you have the skill set to be successful.

2. What technical skills should you put on a copywriter resume?

Because writers produce much of their material on the computer, it is important for a copywriter to have certain technical skills. Look at the job description to see which skills the employer requires for each position you apply for. Some examples may include software related to publishing, document management, presentations, spreadsheets, and editing. As you can see in the copywriter resume sample, the candidate includes MS Word, Photoshop, and editing applications.

3. How do you write the header of a copywriter resume?

The header may seem like an afterthought, but it is an important aspect of your resume. This is the place to list your contact information so the hiring manager can get in touch with you if he or she wants to ask you in for an interview. Include your full name and city and state. Include the best phone number to reach you, but do not list your current work one. List an email, making sure it sounds professional. These days, many recruiters want to access an applicant’s LinkedIn account, so if you have a profile, you should include that as well.

4. How long should a copywriter resume be?

The length of your resume should reflect how much related experience you have. Typically, if you have 10 or fewer years of experience, your document should only be one page long. If you have extensive experience over many years and feel it is important for the recruiter to see it, then two pages may suit your intentions better. Look at the copywriter resume sample to see how to format a one-page resume.

5. How should you structure your copywriter resume?

The way you structure your resume is important. Hiring managers usually spend fewer than 10 seconds reviewing each resume, so make sure you structure it in a way that showcases the most important information first.

If you have a lot of experience, the first section should be the professional summary, followed by the work history section. Next, list your skills and then your education. If you are a recent graduate or do not have a lot of experience, begin with the summary, and follow it with the skills and education sections. List the work experience section last if you do not have much. The copywriter resume sample has a clear and readable structure you can emulate.
