How to Answer the ‘Have You Found Any Ways to Make School or a Job Easier or More Rewarding or to Make Yourself More Effective?’ Interview Question

Focus on How You Maintained Productivity: When talking about school- you could refer to how you used certain study skills. For instance- you could recall how taking good notes made it easier to study for exams- and using mnemonic devices made it easier to remember lists. These skills can translate to almost any workplace. You can phrase them in terms of things like active listening or resourcefulness. When it comes to reflecting on previous work experience- some examples include making connections with your fellow workers and doing a focus meditation before each shift. There are different strategies that work well for everyone- but the important thing with these types of interview questions is to be able to explain how your specific method had a good impact on your work performance.

Don’t Dodge the Question: You may be inclined to say that you are already an extremely effective worker and that you haven’t had to think of ways to improve your effectiveness. Even if you really believe that to be true- don’t say something like that in your answer- because hiring managers are looking for people who want to build teamwork and have something unique to offer. If you have always been a good worker- reflect on what you do on a day to day basis that really allows your work to shine- and make that the thing that you talk about here. Regardless of what kind of work you have done in the past- there is always a good answer to this or similar interview questions.

Focus on Effectiveness- Not Easiness: The “have you found any ways to make school or a job easier or more rewarding or to make yourself more effective?” query is not a trick question- though there is a trick to giving the best answer. You could focus on how you made things easier- but it is important to not construe yourself as being uninterested in doing hard work. Instead of focusing on the “easiness” part of the question- focus on the “effectiveness” section. You will definitely get bonus points if you are able to show how you are a hard worker while simultaneously making a job fun for yourself and the team you work with.

Sample ‘Have You Found Any Ways to Make School or a Job Easier or More Rewarding or to Make Yourself More Effective?’ Interview Answers

1. I came to learn after years of school that the best way to be an effective student was to always take good notes in class. When I had a book to read- I would always underline or highlight important parts to make review easier. When going over my notes- I would highlight the important parts. I was able to really develop my active listening skills as well as my ability to focus and isolate important pieces of information. Also- when studying- I would wait to finish an entire chapter or a set goal of work before I allowed myself to take a break. That way- a break served as more of a reward for hard work.

2. At my last job as a cook- we were required to make orders promptly while making sure to do a good job adhering to a specific recipe. In order to memorize each dish- I made a mnemonic device that had the order of ingredients and the amount. Even today- when I think of making those dishes- I remember the mnemonics that I thought of. Another important part of that job was being on a friendly basis with my coworkers. Rather than simply showing up and doing the work- I made sure we were a real team who had each other’s backs. I think the people you work with make up the most important aspect of any job- so it’s important for me to get to know my fellow team members.

Now you are even more prepared to answer the question- “have you found any ways to make school or a job easier or more rewarding or to make yourself more effective?”
