15 Tips to Write Your PHP Web Developer Resume

Summary Statement

1. The summary statement should summarize your skills and experience in a succinct three sentences or bullet points, no more.
2. Use sentence fragments, not full sentences, in this section.
3. Write in the first person with pronouns removed; do not use third person.
4. You can indicate the number of years of experience you have, but note it as either “years of experience” or “years’ experience,” as the applicant in the PHP web developer resume template for Word has done.

Skills Section

5. List relevant skills for the position you’re applying for, but do not include skills everyone should already have, such as email or Microsoft Office.
6. Include keywords and phrases from the job description in this section. Using the exact phrasing will increase the likelihood of your resume being flagged and reviewed.
7. Use short phrases for each bullet point, avoid long sentences, and do not use periods at the end.

Work Experience Section

8. Highlight only the skills and accomplishments most relevant to the job.
9. Open each bullet point with a strong action verb, and include five to eight bullet points per position.
10. Start with your current or most recent position and list the rest backwards chronologically.
11. Show only the most recent 10-15 years of career history and only include work experience that’s relevant to the position you are applying for.
12. Mention specific metrics and how you completed tasks and projects to turn duties into accomplishments, as the applicant does in the PHP web developer resume template for Word.

Education Section

13. Make note of graduating with high Greek honors from your university, such as summa cum laude, magna cum laude, or cum laude. Unless you are a recent college graduate, do not include GPAs. See the PHP web developer resume template for Word for an example of how the applicant mentions this.
14. Keep to relevant educational experience, leaving off your high school diploma if you already have a degree.
15. This section should always follow the Work Experience section to show that your most recent jobs are more relevant and important than where you went to college, unless you are a recent graduate.
