15 Tips to Write Your Credit Manager Resume

Summary Statement

1. There’s no need to waste space with an objective statement confirming that you want the job. Summarize your experience and attributes instead.
2. The summary statement is a good place to emphasize soft skills. If you have a record of building rapport with diverse groups of people, the summary is a good place to mention it.
3. Brevity is a virtue. Limit your summary to no more than three sentences or bullet points.
4. Use first person. It’s fine to omit personal pronouns, and you don’t need to use complete sentences. See the credit manager resume template for Word for examples.

Skills Section

5. Keep this section relevant. Focus on skills that will be useful in the job you want.
6. Make your resume easy to skim by presenting skills as short phrases rather than complete sentences. The credit manager resume template for Word can show you how to present skills concisely.
7. Customize each resume to include key words and phrases from the job description. Use them exactly as they appear so a manager or recruiter can quickly see that you are a good fit for the position.

Work Experience Section

8. Use bullet points for readability. Paragraphs are too dense for hiring managers to scan quickly.
9. Use compelling metrics. Don’t just state that you increased revenue; include specific percentages or dollar amounts that convey how much you increased revenue.
10. Avoid using abbreviations or acronyms unless they are well known in your general industry. Your resume might first be read by an assistant or recruiter who doesn’t know every acronym. Our credit manager resume template for Word gives you some examples.
11. Don’t include salary or supervisor contact information unless you’re applying for a federal position. Employers who want this information will ask for it.
12. Bullet points should begin with strong action words. Instead of writing that you were “responsible for mediating disputes,” tell your reader that you “resolved disputes.”

Education Section

13. List your education in reverse chronological order.
14. Include only relevant education information. If you have a college degree, don’t mention high school.
15. Do include relevant continuing education or certifications, even if they aren’t part of a degree program.

Even the most seasoned professionals can find it challenging when the product they need to market is themselves, but you shouldn’t worry. Writing a resume can be frustrating and will certainly take time, but a polished professional document will set you apart from the competition and help you get an interview. By following these tips and showcasing your greatest strengths, you’ll soon be on the road to the next stage of your career as a credit manager.
