In First Cover-Letter Paragraph: Tell Who You Are, Why You're Writing

TeenaRoseBook.jpg The sole purpose of your first paragraph is to tell the reader who you are and why you are writing. (That’s why so many letters begin “I am writing to…”.) Mention the specific position you are applying for or the type of job you are seeking if this is not responding to an advertisement. This is also the place for you to briefly reference something you know about the company, establishing that you’ve done your homework and spent some time learning about the company and its needs.
