Los Angeles AI Exposure Index: 192,000+ Local Jobs at Risk From Automation in 2026

Artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly reshaping work across the U.S., and the Greater Los Angeles area is no exception. With large employment bases in roles such as customer service representatives, management analysts, and counter and rental clerks, Los Angeles shows exposure to automation risk. 

We call this disruption the “AI Jobquake,” a force that could reshape or replace many jobs. According to the newly launched MyPerfectResume AI Exposure Index, approximately 192,840 workers in Greater Los Angeles are employed in the 10 largest occupations most susceptible to AI automation. 

AI task applicability scores measure how much of a job’s daily tasks could potentially be completed by AI systems. The Index combines Microsoft’s Working with AI study with U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Employment and Wage Statistics (OEWS) data to produce local estimates. 

While not every job will vanish, AI is expected to transform routine tasks, forcing workers to adapt, reskill, and focus on the aspects of work that machines can’t replace.

These are the 10 largest occupations in Greater Los Angeles most vulnerable to generative AI, representing a combined 192,840 local workers.

1. Customer service representatives

•    Los Angeles workers employed: 66,800
•    Annual mean wage: $52,080
•    AI exposure: About 44% of tasks are potentially automatable

Customer service roles often involve routine inquiries, scripted responses, and information lookups, tasks that generative AI and chatbots can increasingly handle. Human representatives will likely shift toward handling complex issues, emotional intelligence, and exception management.

2. Management analysts

•    Los Angeles workers employed: 39,750
•    Annual mean wage: $126,340
•    AI exposure: About 35% of tasks are potentially automatable

Analysts spend time on data aggregation, basic modeling, and report generation—areas where AI can accelerate work. Consultants who combine domain expertise with AI-enabled insights will be better positioned to add strategic value.

3. Counter and rental clerks

•    Los Angeles workers employed: 26,410
•    Annual mean wage: $46,090
•    AI exposure: About 36% of tasks are potentially automatable

Transactional duties, reservations, and standard customer interactions can be automated through kiosks and virtual assistants. Staff may be redeployed to handle maintenance, upselling, and complex customer service needs.

4. Personal financial advisors

•    Los Angeles workers employed: 12,240
•    Annual mean wage: $155,270
•    AI exposure: About 35% of tasks are potentially automatable

Automated portfolio analysis and robo-advisors can perform routine investment tasks, but advisors who emphasize personalized planning, relationship management, and trust-based advice will remain valuable.

5. Public relations specialists

•    Los Angeles workers employed: 11,930
•    Annual mean wage: $85,550
•    AI exposure: About 36% of tasks are potentially automatable

Content drafting, media monitoring, and baseline messaging can be aided by AI, while high-stakes reputation management and creative strategy will still rely on human judgment.

6. Data scientists

•   Los Angeles workers employed: 10,030
•   Annual mean wage: $130,550
•   AI exposure: About 36% of tasks are potentially automatable

Tools that automate model selection, feature engineering, and reporting can augment productivity. Data scientists will focus more on framing problems, governance, and translating insights into business action.

7. Editors

•   Los Angeles workers employed: 8,690
•   Annual mean wage: $111,800
•   AI exposure: About 37% of tasks are potentially automatable

Grammar checks, style consistency, and initial draft edits can be automated, shifting editors toward narrative shaping, source verification, and editorial judgment.

8. Technical writers

•   Los Angeles workers employed: 8,600
•   Annual mean wage: $100,190
•   AI exposure: About 38% of tasks are potentially automatable

AI can produce first drafts, summarize technical specs, and format documentation, while writers will need to specialize in complex content design, usability, and stakeholder alignment.

•   Annual mean wage: $98,080
•   AI exposure: About 45% of tasks are potentially automatable

Generative models can create outlines, drafts, and ideation at scale, pushing writers to emphasize originality, voice, long-form narrative, and human-centered storytelling.

10. Advertising sales agents

•    Los Angeles workers employed: 3,930
•    Annual mean wage: $77,490
•    AI exposure: About 36% of tasks are potentially automatable

Programmatic ad placement and automated proposals can streamline sales workflows, while relationship-building, negotiation, and bespoke campaign strategy will continue to require human skills.

Industry Hot Spots in Los Angeles, CA

Customer support and call center operations are highly vulnerable across the metro. With tens of thousands of customer service workers on the list, routine inquiries and scripted interactions are prime candidates for automation, accelerating the adoption of chatbots and virtual agents. Methodology

This Index pairs Microsoft’s Working with AI: Measuring the Occupational Implications of Generative AI with U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Employment and Wage Statistics (OEWS) data. 

The Microsoft study provides applicability metrics: coverage, completion, scope, and a composite score estimating the share of job tasks AI can perform. We applied those metrics to BLS employment and wage data and selected the top 10 largest occupations by local employment among roles with high AI applicability to produce these local exposure estimates.
