Artificial intelligence (AI) is reshaping workforces nationwide, and Tampa is no exception.
The region’s concentration of workers in customer service, financial advisory, and professional services makes it particularly vulnerable to what we call the “AI Jobquake,” a disruption that could replace some jobs outright and significantly transform many others.
According to the newly released MyPerfectResume AI Exposure Index, approximately 63,520 workers in Greater Tampa are employed in the 10 largest occupations most susceptible to AI automation.
The Index pairs AI task applicability scores, a measure of how much of a job’s daily work could be handled by AI systems, with local employment and wage data from Microsoft’s Working with AI study and the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Employment and Wage Statistics (OEWS) program.
While AI is unlikely to eliminate jobs overnight, it is expected to automate repetitive and routine tasks, prompting workers to reskill and focus on the uniquely human aspects of their roles.
Key Findings at a Glance

- Interpreters and translators face the highest AI applicability score, with roughly 49% of tasks potentially automatable.
- Personal financial advisors rank as the highest-paid at-risk group, earning an average of $146,450 while still seeing about 35% of tasks at risk.

Methodology
The MPR AI Exposure Index draws on two primary sources: Microsoft’s Working with AI: Measuring the Occupational Implications of Generative AI and the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Employment and Wage Statistics (OEWS) for the Tampa metropolitan area. AI task applicability scores were paired with local job counts and wage estimates to identify the city’s most exposed occupations.
The Index highlights the 10 largest Tampa occupations most vulnerable to automation, based on employment size and AI applicability scores. The results measure exposure, not guaranteed job loss; some roles will be reshaped or augmented, while others may face more significant disruption.
