This position requires excellent communication skills. What experiences do you have to prepare you for this requirement?

My previous position was in leadership, and I absolutely believe my success was due to prioritizing communication and clearly interacting with the other employees. Succeeding in a position such as that one certainly requires the ability to communicate well with others, but I went a step further and prioritized it in my leading style. Over the course of the four years I was in management, I gained a mastery over my ability to interact with others. I am excited to bring this skill set to this HR associate position, but I also anticipate continuing to prioritize this aspect to make my time in this position as successful as possible.

Throughout your work as an HR associate, you will be required to analyze employees' effectiveness and work situations in general. Are you prepared to perform this level of analysis?

I believe I am. As you know, I have an extensive history in accounting, which may not seem related at first, but that work is all about analysis. Of course, it is more mathematical in that field, but similar concepts are always being employed. Because I have a history with looking at the numbers and making a decision about how to approach them, I will be qualified to analyze the statistics of each worker and make decisions about how well they are performing and where improvements can be made. In fact, that is the very reason why I am trying to shift my career toward the human resources department.

Describe a situation where you had to employ problem-solving abilities to succeed.

I remember when I was tasked with making the entire process more efficient in my previous position. You can imagine how monumental a task it was, but the higher ups were worried because it seemed like something was costing us, but no one could figure out where the problem was. The first thing I did was meet with each department head individually and see where they thought work could be streamlined. In the end, each area was improved, and we were able to save about 12 percent. I think the key to successfully solving the problem was acknowledging that I was not qualified to do it all on my own. Through teamwork and cooperation, we were all able to save time and money.

This position will require an extensive mathematical understanding. Tell me about your experiences in this area specifically.

As an accountant, I certainly have a very strong background in mathematics. In fact, crunching the numbers is how I spent each and every day in my last position. If this is a point of emphasis for the HR associate position, I am not worried at all about how I will transition from accounting to human resources.

How does this HR associate position fit in with your long-term career goals?

You know that I originally worked in accounting, but I am interested in making a permanent transition into the human resources field. I am hoping this job can help facilitate that transition. I am anticipating staying in this position for several years, and I hope to be able to pursue more advanced positions down the road, possibly in management.
