On one occasion an individual who needed to attend management training was out of town until the evening before the scheduled meeting. I contacted him outside of regular working hours, even though I was off the clock, and gave him all of the necessary information. 2. What is your experience in managing conflict?
In two of my previous jobs I was an office manager, which meant I worked with several parties to coordinate meetings and gatherings. There were several times where schedules didn’t align and I was tasked with trying to find a solution for everyone. I learned that compromise is essential to successful performance in this type of role. When a conflict would arise regarding meeting scheduling, I would take my time to hear and understand all sides before reaching a consensus and making a final decision.
3. What skills and abilities do you think are most important in a communications assistant role?
I would have to say organization and communication. First, organization is critical to keeping information stored in a manner that is accessible and convenient. When a person is in charge of making phone calls, arranging meetings, filing important documents, and disseminating classified information, organization is of utmost importance. Second, an assistant must understand how to communicate interpersonally in order to be successful, prompt, and informative in transmitting information to involved parties. I have. In my previous job I was given information about the company’s products and upcoming sales, and was tasked with formulating this content into something that was readable, intriguing, and informational. These opportunities helped me to realize and improve my writing skills. I was able to see how important it is to write content that is concise while still providing the public with valuable details and education.
5. Does this position help you with your long-term career goals?
Definitely. One reason this particular position caught my eye is because of the potential here for advancement opportunities. I am aware that beginning a career as a communications assistant means I will be dealing primarily with administrative work. However, I also recognize that through hard work and dedication I will attain opportunities for me to assume a higher role, where I may be responsible for participating in research studies, managing group projects, and preparing detailed agendas for executive management.
