1. One of the most important responsibilities you’ll have as a Director of Rehabilitation is to ensure that the needs of the patients are being met. How will you work with team members to ensure client satisfaction?

In addition to providing training specific to the medical roles staff members hold, I plan to help team members improve skills such as patience, communication, a strong work ethic, and flexibility. The patients who come through our office will have a variety of personalities and might sometimes be in a bad mood. I’ll consider appropriate training and methods of encouragement to help staff develop the skills to work cheerfully with all clients as they provide rehabilitation services.

2. What skills have you learned from previous jobs? Can you share an example of how those skills might be used in this position?

As I worked to become a certified rehabilitation counselor, I had the opportunity to work closely with an occupational therapy team. During that time, I learned the importance of a strong leader. Our team manager assigned each of us certain responsibilities and was available to help us to successfully complete them. I believe that one of my roles will be to provide ongoing support and training, so that staff members are confident and positive as they complete their assigned tasks.

3. Compliance with local and federal laws is vital to the success of a rehabilitation clinic. How knowledgeable are you about compliance requirements?

Each member of the staff must meet compliance requirements, and the clinic as a whole must meet these requirements. One of the main ways to ensure compliance is to act before deadlines roll around. It will be important to keep track of deadlines for each staff member and to provide resources as necessary to ensure that they keep their credentials up to date.

4. Creativity is important in this field. Can you give me an example of a suggestion that you have made that was put to use in this field?

It’s important during rehabilitation to use a variety of techniques with patients to ensure that progress doesn’t get bogged down by too much repetition. Once I suggested that we gather together files of some of the strategies that weren’t used as often so that counselors could easily pull out a tactic that they hadn’t used before. Over time, the files became a valuable resource for everyone in the office as we all continued to contribute new practices we learned and then shared those new techniques and strategies.

5. As the Director of Rehabilitation, you’ll be responsible to establish ethical guidelines. Can you give me an example of a time that your sense of ethics was challenged and how you dealt with that situation?

I was in a situation once where I saw one of my coworkers acting in a manner that was contrary to our company’s safety goals. With the understanding that those actions could adversely affect the safety of everyone who worked in the business and the safety of our customers, I felt that it was best to confront my coworker and to speak to my supervisor. I believe that as an employee, my ethical responsibilities will be to the office and to the patients we treat. Personal integrity is very important to me, so if I was confronted with a situation that challenged my ability to act with honesty, I would take actions to correct the situation.
