Inspector Cover Letter Example + Tips

You’ve spent a lot of time and energy to create a resume that “wows” them. Now you need a great cover letter to introduce yourself and your resume to potential employers. Your cover letter is an important part of a job application and gives you an opportunity to highlight skills and experience that may otherwise be overlooked. Use this free inspector cover letter sample and industry-specific tips that follow to get started.

Dear Mr. Williams,

Attached is my resume in application for the inspector position at your company. I am skilled in this role and I believe I am the right candidate for this job.

I have worked in the construction industry for many years, starting right after high school and working in various construction trades. I have developed skills in many different areas, from drywall to framing, carpentry, and more. Your job posting asked for candidates with knowledge of local and national building codes. As a construction foreman here in New York, my responsibilities included ensuring that projects met those same codes, so I have a very good grasp of these requirements.

Inspectors are responsible for verifying that buildings are structurally sound, meet codes and zoning requirements, and also follow contract specs. As a foreman, those were my goals, too. I oversaw a crew of several workers and enforced proper use of materials, tools and construction quality to meet these requirements.

As an experienced tradesman, I have the abilities to be a good inspector. I would enjoy discussing my qualifications further in an interview setting.

What to Include in an Inspector Cover Letter

Review these pointers based on our free inspector cover letter sample. Keep your letter short and on topic, as shown in the sample. Don’t ramble on about your skills and experience, but do point them out. Compose your letter in a professional manner, skip the clichés, and focus on the job and your skills. Use the hiring manager’s name to make your letter more noticeable. Another good idea is to have a family member or friend read over the letter before you submit it.

Industry Specific Skills to Include

Address specific skills from the posting and use the same language in your letter. Here are some industry attributes to include, along with the free inspector cover letter sample above.

● Communication: Inspectors must be able to explain any issues they find and help people understand how to fix the problems. They will also need to write a report of their findings.
● Craft: You must have experience in construction trades in order to inspect work throughout a construction project.
● Detail-oriented: An inspector examines different activities, often at the same time. You must pay attention to detail and not miss any items.
● Physical requirements: You may have to climb ladders or crawl into and out of tight spaces, so some physical ability is required.
