No matter your level of experience or accomplishment, a well-written resume is the key to landing the customer service job you’ve been searching for. Your resume is a recruiter’s first encounter with you. Keep in mind the average hiring manager looks at a resume for just a few seconds. Customer service positions emphasize written and verbal communication as well as empathy. Think of your resume as an opportunity to demonstrate that you have these qualities. Be sure to add any credentials that prove your communication skills or ability to empathize.

Customer Service Representative Resume Questions
Every resume should have these five basic sections: contact information, professional summary, skills and qualifications, work experience, and education. If there is room, add sections for hobbies and interests and awards and recognitions at the bottom. Each section begins with a bold header followed by detailed information.

Unless you have 15 or more years’ experience, a one-page resume is long enough. List only recent and prominent jobs and pare your skills down to the six to eight most important. Hiring managers only spend about six seconds perusing each resume, so there is no need to overwhelm them with too much information.
If you have risen to high levels of management and have many years in the profession, it is permissible to have a two-page resume. Be sure the content is relevant to the job search and not just padding to make the document longer.

Use your full name, no nicknames, followed by your address, phone number, and email address. Be sure that your email address is appropriate for a job search. Always list your work experience in reverse chronological order, starting with your current position. Write the name and location of the employer, the dates you worked there, and your job title. Then you should have four to six bullet points that describe your responsibilities and successes on the job.

Include computer skills in one of two ways on your resume. The first is to put them in your qualifications section. You can have a bullet point that lists all the software programs you use, for example. Another option is to mention them in the work experience. A possible bullet point may read, “Used new software database to record and track customer complaints.” This demonstrates your use of computer skills on the job.
