Teacher CV Questions

1. How do you make a teacher CV for a first job?

If you have never held a job before, you can still write a professional curriculum vitae that can help you launch your teaching career. Start with a header in which you provide your full name and contact information followed by either a professional summary or objective statement and lists of skills, work experience, and educational credentials.

First-time jobseekers should focus on their major areas of specialization, skills, and training when writing CVs. You should also describe student teacher training, work-study positions, or volunteering in the experience section to give prospective employers a sense of your work ethic as well as your educational background.

2. How do you format a teacher CV?

A CV is slightly different from a standard resume. This document allows skilled professionals to describe their growth and development over the course of their training and careers. Use formatting options such as alignment, bold text, spacing, headers and subheaders, and bullet points to structure your CV.

If you aren’t sure how to format this type of document, use a teacher CV sample as a template for our personalized resume builder. Formatting can make your CV easier for prospective employers to skim and determine that you are the right candidate for an available position.

3. How do you highlight soft skills on a teacher CV?

In addition to pointing out your excellence in the subjects you teach, you should also strive to communicate a sense of your character and values on your CV. Soft skills allow you to describe your personality and priorities as a teacher.

The candidate on our teacher CV sample points out his commitment to acting as a mentor, listening to and addressing concerns, and promoting learning in his summary statement. He goes on to point out that he is an active learner, skilled communicator, and creative thinker in his skills section.

4. How do you list schools in a teacher CV?

As a teacher, you likely hold at least a bachelor’s degree. List this credential and other pedagogical training in the education section of your CV. Include a description of each degree or certificate you hold, along with the year of graduation or program completion and the name and location of the school you attended. Start with your highest degree or most recent credential and continue backward through time.

5. How do you list certifications on your teacher CV?

You may mention teaching certifications in the education section of your CV or elsewhere. If a job description states that applicants must hold current certifications to teach in a certain state or region, you can bring up this qualification in your summary statement, skills section, or in a separate section dedicated to certifications. The candidate on our teacher CV sample points out his elementary education coursework in the education section.

Teacher CV Must-Haves

What Does a Teacher Do?

Teachers are responsible for instructing students in groups or individually and using a variety of lectures, demonstrations, and other teaching methods to ensure students are learning. They must establish clear objectives and write their lesson plans accordingly in order to maximize their effectiveness in the given time. Teachers must be able to create rules for their classroom and enforce rules for both the classroom and the school. They should be comfortable meeting with students, guardians, and other teachers to discuss a child’s progress in school. Use the teacher CV example to help you focus on your own excellent skills to get the job you want.

Tips for Creating a Great Teacher CV

– Do use your professional summary to highlight skills that go above and beyond what a typical teacher does, such as hosting study groups or coming up with non-text methods of teaching.
– Don’t write in past tense when writing about your current job. Always write in present tense for a job you are currently working.
– Do begin each bullet in your experience section with a strong action word that draws the reader in and makes him want to keep reading.
– Don’t try to fit in too much information. Instead, focus on your college experience and the jobs you’ve held in the past 10 years.
– Do use concise language but be detailed when writing your CV.
