When you’re in the market for a new job, the first thing you need to do is polish up your resume. A resume is part sales pitch and part advertisement, so you’ll want to draw on your sales and marketing experience as you draft it. Your resume should make it easy for the hiring manager to quickly see that you are at the top of the applicant pool.
Your resume will vary depending on the type of company you’re applying to, so make sure that you study the job posting and tweak your resume accordingly. For example, if the agency sells on online advertising, you would want to tout your tech savvy and your familiarity with online trends. When listing your accomplishments, make sure to attach numbers whenever possible. “Increased revenue from existing clients by 28% over six months” is much more impressive than “increased sales.” Finally, if you’ve received any awards or worked on any noteworthy ad campaigns, makes sure to list those in the highlights section of your resume.
